Vivah Muhurat 2026–27: Shubh Marriage Dates Month by Month

Key points at a glance

  • Vivah muhurat 2026 dates start again after Dev Uthani Ekadashi on 20 November 2026; the first listed wedding date is Saturday, 21 November 2026.
  • November 2026 has 4 vivah muhurat dates and December 2026 has 7, the last on 12 December 2026.
  • No marriage dates are listed during Kharmas, from Dhanu Sankranti on 16 December 2026 until mid-January 2027.
  • 2027 has 83 listed dates on a New Delhi panchang, with the busiest months being May (17 dates) and June (15 dates).
  • Chaturmas begins with Devshayani Ekadashi on 14 July 2027, so the panchang lists no wedding dates from July to mid-November 2027.

"Panditji, December mein koi achhi date hai?" (Is there a good date in December?) If your family has just fixed a rishta, this is probably the question at your dinner table right now. The wedding season after Diwali is short, popular dates fill banquet halls fast, and a gap of three weeks can mean waiting until mid-January. This guide lists every vivah muhurat 2026 and 2027 date from the panchang, explains why some months have none, and shows how our astrologers narrow a list down to the right date for one couple. You can also browse our muhurat calendar for every occasion, which covers griha pravesh, mundan and other ceremonies alongside marriage.

What is vivah muhurat 2026?

Vivah muhurat 2026 means the shubh (auspicious) dates and time windows in 2026 that the Hindu panchang considers suitable for a wedding. A date qualifies when the Moon sits in a marriage-friendly nakshatra, the tithi is favourable, and the period is free of Kharmas, Chaturmas and the combustion of Venus or Jupiter. A couple's own kundlis then decide the best of those dates.

In short: the panchang gives a shortlist for everyone. Your charts pick from it.

How a vivah muhurat is chosen

A wedding date is worked out by filtering the calendar, step by step. Classical texts on muhurta, such as Muhurta Chintamani, set out most of these rules, and panchang makers still follow them.

  1. Remove blocked periods. Chaturmas (from Devshayani to Dev Uthani Ekadashi), Kharmas (Sun in Sagittarius or Pisces) and the weeks when Venus or Jupiter is combust (asta) are taken out first.
  2. Keep marriage nakshatras. The Moon should be in one of the eleven traditional vivah nakshatras: Rohini, Mrigashira, Magha, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Mula, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada or Revati.
  3. Check the tithi. Rikta tithis (Chaturthi, Navami, Chaturdashi) and Amavasya are avoided.
  4. Check yoga and karana. Inauspicious yogas such as Vyatipata and Vaidhriti, and Vishti (Bhadra) karana, are avoided.
  5. Fix the lagna. The rising sign at the time of the pheras should be strong and unafflicted. This depends on the city, so it changes from Delhi to Bengaluru.
  6. Check both kundlis. Our astrologers look at Chandra bala and Tara bala (Moon and star strength) for both partners, Guru bala for the bride and Surya bala for the groom, as many traditions require.
  7. Match with real life. Venue, travel and family availability narrow the list to one date and one time window.

Steps 1 to 4 give the dates you see in the tables below. Steps 5 to 7 are personal, and that is where most families need help.

Vivah muhurat dates in November and December 2026

The wedding season reopens after Chaturmas ends on Dev Uthani Ekadashi, 20 November 2026, with Tulsi Vivah the next day. These dates follow a New Delhi panchang; two independent panchang listings agree on all of them.

vivah muhurat 2026 dates for November and December calendar

Weekends go first. Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 December 2026 are the dates most city venues will be asked for, so book early if you want them. If your date is flexible, a weekday such as 3 December often gives you the same muhurat quality with far easier venue availability.

A few panchangs also list 30 November or 9 December 2026. Different calculation methods and cities cause these small differences, so confirm any date outside the table with your family pandit or one of our astrologers before you book.

Which months are best for a 2027 wedding?

May and June 2027 have the most dates, which suits families planning around school holidays. They are also the hottest months in most of North India, so many families in Delhi NCR, Jaipur and Lucknow prefer February or late November. February 2027 has 12 dates and pleasant weather almost everywhere.

March has a short window. After 14 March, the Sun moves into Pisces and Kharmas returns until mid-April, so there are no dates from mid-March to 18 April 2027.

When there are no wedding dates, and why

Some periods are blocked for everyone, whatever their kundli says. This table shows the ones that affect the 2026–27 season.

Period Dates (2026–27) Why weddings are avoided
Chaturmas 2026 Ends on Dev Uthani Ekadashi, 20 November 2026 Lord Vishnu is believed to be in yoga nidra; auspicious beginnings wait
Dhanu Kharmas 16 December 2026 to mid-January 2027 Sun in Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter, weakens Jupiter's blessing for marriage
Meena Kharmas Mid-March to mid-April 2027 Sun in Pisces, the other Jupiter-ruled sign
Chaturmas 2027 From Devshayani Ekadashi, 14 July 2027, to mid-November Same reason as above
Venus or Jupiter asta Varies; checked for each date Venus and Jupiter are the karakas (significators) of marriage

Families sometimes ask whether these rules apply to court marriages or registered marriages. The registration itself can happen any day. Most families still hold the religious ceremony on a muhurat date.

Myths vs facts about wedding dates

A muhurat list is useful, but it is often misread. These are the misunderstandings our astrologers hear most.

Myth Fact
Every date on the list suits every couple The list is general. Chandra bala, Tara bala and each partner's dasha make some dates better than others for you.
A date with more hours of muhurat is better What matters is that the pheras happen inside a good window with a strong lagna, not the length of the window.
Any Sunday in wedding season is fine Weekend dates are popular, not necessarily auspicious. Many Sundays have no muhurat.
Muhurat dates are the same across India Lagna timings and some dates change by city and by the panchang tradition followed.
A perfect muhurat fixes a weak match A muhurat starts the marriage well. Compatibility comes from the kundlis and from the couple.
You can't marry at all during Chaturmas Most panchangs list no dates, and most families wait. Some regional traditions follow different rules, which your family pandit can advise on.

myths and facts about vivah muhurat 2026 wedding dates

Many websites print a single master list and call every date "best". We disagree. The best date is the one that clears the panchang and your two charts, and it is often not the most popular weekend.

An illustrative example: choosing between two December dates

This is an illustrative example, not a real client.

Consider a couple in Pune who have shortlisted Saturday, 5 December 2026 and Friday, 11 December 2026. The bride's family wants the Saturday for guest convenience.

An astrologer checks both partners' Moon signs against the Moon's position on each date. On 5 December the Moon is in Swati, in Libra. Suppose the groom's Moon is in Pisces: Libra is then the 8th sign from his Moon, which weakens Chandra bala for him on that day. On 11 December the Moon is in Uttara Ashadha, in Sagittarius or Capricorn depending on the hour, which is the 10th or 11th sign from the groom's Moon, both supportive positions. Suppose the bride's chart also supports that day.

In a case like this, the astrologer would suggest 11 December, with the pheras inside a strong evening lagna for Pune. The family keeps a Friday-night celebration and a Saturday reception. A small change of plan for a much cleaner muhurat.

When your preferred date is not available

Sometimes the hall, the family or a work schedule rules out every good date. Our astrologers usually suggest these traditional steps rather than forcing a weak date. They are practices of faith and good planning, and they cannot promise any particular outcome.

  • Choose the strongest time window, not just the date. A good lagna for the pheras can matter more than the day itself.
  • Hold the roka or engagement on a good day. Families often fix the roka on an available muhurat and the wedding later.
  • Begin with Ganesh puja. Most Hindu weddings start with Ganesh puja to remove obstacles. Our guide to Hindu wedding rituals and customs covers the order of ceremonies.
  • Strengthen harmony through puja. Couples often book a Gauri Shankar puja for a harmonious married life before or after the wedding.
  • Check the panchang for smaller events. Haldi, mehendi and sangeet are often timed using the daily panchang too.

Kundli matching comes before the date

A muhurat is chosen after the match is settled, not before. If the kundlis show Manglik dosha, Nadi dosha or a low guna score, those questions should be answered first. Our guide on why kundali matching matters before marriage explains what is checked and why.

For a detailed written view of compatibility, many families order the Marriage Compatibility Report and share it with both sides before fixing the date.

Wedding muhurat for families in your city or online

We help families in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Jaipur, Lucknow, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Indore choose wedding dates every season. Online consultation works just as well as visiting a pandit. The astrologer calculates the lagna for your wedding city, so a Jaipur wedding is timed for Jaipur, even if the family calls from Bengaluru.

It also makes it easy to bring both families on one call, which saves a lot of back-and-forth. If you prefer typing, you can chat with an astrologer about your wedding date instead.

Frequently asked questions

When do vivah muhurat 2026 dates start after Chaturmas?

Vivah muhurat 2026 dates start right after Dev Uthani Ekadashi, which falls on 20 November 2026. The first listed wedding date is Saturday, 21 November 2026, followed by 24, 25 and 26 November. December 2026 then has seven dates, from 2 to 12 December, before Kharmas begins.

Are there any wedding dates in late December 2026?

No, the panchang lists no wedding dates in late December 2026. Kharmas begins with Dhanu Sankranti on 16 December 2026 and lasts until mid-January 2027, when the Sun enters Capricorn. The next listed date is 15 January 2027.

Which month in 2027 has the most wedding dates?

May 2027 has the most, with 17 listed dates, followed by June with 15. February 2027 has 12 dates and is a popular choice for its weather. There are no dates from July to mid-November 2027 because of Chaturmas.

Why are there no marriage dates during Chaturmas?

Chaturmas is the four-month period from Devshayani Ekadashi to Dev Uthani Ekadashi, when Lord Vishnu is believed to rest. Tradition holds that major new beginnings such as weddings and griha pravesh should wait until he wakes. In 2027, Chaturmas begins on 14 July.

Do muhurat dates change from city to city?

The broad list of dates is similar across North India, but exact time windows and lagna timings change with each city's sunrise and longitude. A few dates can also differ between panchang traditions. Always have the final time calculated for the city where the pheras will take place.

Is a weekend date less auspicious than a weekday?

No, the day of the week alone does not make a date more or less auspicious. What matters is the nakshatra, tithi, lagna and both partners' charts. Weekday muhurat dates are often just as strong and are usually far easier to book.

Do we need kundli matching before choosing a muhurat?

Yes, kundli matching should come first. It settles whether the match is suitable and flags doshas that families may want to address. Once the match is confirmed, an astrologer uses both charts to pick the most supportive date and time from the muhurat list.
